It is imperative that you wash your hair extensions regularly with a good quality, deep cleansing and nourishing shampoo that will ensure there is no build up on the scalp and extensions. Don’t allow your hair and scalp to become dirty and oily, this will only encourage your extensions to tangle and knot up and then fall out.

Prior to washing it is important to detangle your extensions,  spray your extensions with a good quality detangler from the tip of your extensions to below the attachments and comb out the tangles with a soft bristle brush specifically designed for extensions, or even better if possible with your fingers.

Wet hair with luke warm water, apply the required amount of high quality hair shampoo to your hands, dab onto your hair starting at the roots down to the ends, gently working the shampoo into a rich lather using a gentle circular motion without rubbing as rubbing can cause the hair to tangle. Rinse your hair thoroughly with luke warm water. Ensure your hair is clean and rinsed properly then start with conditioning process.

You must condition your hair after every wash with a good quality conditioner which is nourishing but won’t weigh the hair down. Remember your extensions don’t get the natural oils from your scalp as your own hair will.

Apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hands, spread onto your extensions but not close to the attachments. DO NOT apply the conditioner to the roots of your hair or near the attachments! This can loosen the bonds and make the extensions fall out.  Only apply to the extensions from below the attachments up to the ends/tips of the hair. Leave the conditioner on for a good couple of minutes, most conditioners require approximately 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse out well.

Dry your extensions patting it gently with a towel from roots to ends, DO NOT RUB with towel.!

Spray the extensions with a good quality detangler from below the attachments to the tips then gently detangle with your fingers. DO NOT brush whilst still wet, this will stretch the extensions and cause breakage.

Try to avoid heat on your extensions, heat is damaging to your extensions as well as to your own natural hair. Try let your extensions dry naturally. If you are short of time and need to dry and style your hair rather use your blow dryer on a cool setting. Use a special soft bristle brush designed specifically for your extensions and always brush starting from the tips of the hair working your way up gently. Brush your hair gently a couple of times a day to avoid it from tangling.

You can use a good quality leave in conditioner or detangling spray to keep your hair soft and tangle free but don’t overdo it. Some leave in conditioners will cause a build up on the hair and will cause the hair to tangle. If you are not sure on the leave in conditioner rather stick with a good quality detangling spray, which is light and will not cause build up or the hair to weigh down. Confirm with your hair stylist on the products you are using and if they are okay for your extensions.

Always remember when using hair conditioner, detangler or any other conditioning or styling products, DO NOT apply close to the attachments!

If you want to perm or colour your hair extensions let your hair stylist do it, DO NOT try and do it yourself.

Never sleep with wet hair, make sure your extensions are completely dry when you go to bed. It is recommended to tie your hair in a ponytail to avoid tangling or even better to wrap it in a hair cap or stocking.

It is recommended to put your hair up when exercising. Wash and condition afterwards to remove sweat and dust particles.

Do not expose your hair to chlorine and/or salt water for long periods of time, if possible wear a swim cap but be careful when putting the cap on not to tug at the extensions. Always shampoo and condition your hair immediately after swimming.

If you have damaged your hair we highly recommend a Brazilian blowout. Before you do though, find out if a brazilian blowout charge would be more than you expect. You don’t want to be surprised with a expensive bill, these blowouts can be expensive!
